Sue Vasey was the founding CEO of Your Consortium and brings over 20 years’ experience of working with the voluntary and community sector in North and West Yorkshire and York, in both front line services and infrastructure/contract management support.
Under her leadership, Your Consortium secured over £22m in contracts and grants for voluntary and community sector organisations. She was in the privileged position of working with hundreds of front line organisations of all shapes and sizes.
In addition, she held key posts in the NHS in her earlier career, bringing an understanding of the challenges and priorities of statutory sector colleagues and the importance of recognising these when developing the voluntary and community sector. She also spent ten years as a senior manager in a local front line organisation.
Sue is currently:
Director at The Ideas Mine
Coordinator of the North Yorkshire Community Learning Partnership
Chair of Orb Community Enterprises, Knaresborough
What People Say About Sue
“I can thoroughly recommend Sue Vasey. She readily understands the issues and contexts she’s presented with and draws on her extensive experience to come up with a clear, but realistic, vision for development. Projects are delivered to an agreed timescale and at a competitive rate.”
Chris McGee – Co-ordinator of the Community Learning Partnership
“Sue has shown great skill in turning around an organisation that had experienced multiple setbacks and was struggling to see that it had a future. In less than 5 months Sue has hugely improved staff morale and created a credible organisational strategy and business plan. To achieve this Sue has used a combination of energy, optimism, commitment, empathy, experience in leading and developing organisations and business planning. Sue is a shrewd negotiator, has excellent knowledge of the VCS operating environment and good regional knowledge and contacts. I am delighted with the work Sue has done, without which I fear an organisation with real strengths in delivering high-quality services might not have survived.”
Marion Tweed-Rycroft – Stronger Communities Delivery Manager (Craven)
“I’ve worked with Sue in a variety of roles over the last ten years and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her as a competent, reliable, professional consultant. Sue not only brings solid knowledge and experience but also a very practical approach to ‘getting things done’ alongside an unerring ability to cut straight through to the heart of an issue without getting caught up in the minutiae and fog.
Sue has helped me through numerous projects encompassing strategy development, business development, quality systems and fundraising. What makes Sue different from many other consultants is that she’s actually done the job herself. She understands the big issues facing the sector, has directly led successful organisations and is now able to combine those two elements to offer the support we need, (at a price we can afford!).
Working with Sue has directly led to growth organisations I have led and growth in my own ability to do my job. When looking at return on investment, you can’t get much better than that!”
David Smith – Chief Executive, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind
“What I valued most about Sue’s support when I was wrestling with first the decision and then the challenges of changing from being a sole trader to set up a social enterprise, was the feeling that she was absolutely on my side. She believed in what I was doing and she believed in me. Her expertise in funding and funding applications got me the grant I needed for the professional support to make the transition and of course that was vital. But I’m not sure I’d have had the guts to do it without her. She really understood the various dilemmas I faced and helped me find the confidence to keep going through the toughest bits of the process.”
Jackie Terry-Schuhmann – Dancing for Well-Being CIC
“Sue’s one of those inspirational people. Her response to the needs of the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector was to build a company that successfully competed with private sector players. As founding CEO of Your Consortium Sue supported her team to win contracts for consortia of VCSE organisations bringing over £23m of new money into Yorkshire’s VCSE, enabling grass roots organisations to do more of what they do best, meet the needs of users and change lives.
Sue lead her team with real generosity and a commitment to supporting Your Consortium’s delivery partners to succeed wherever possible. The company was founded at the beginning of the country’s most difficult recession since the war and it was Sue’s vision and determination that has made sure that it thrived despite the difficult economic climate.
She’s a brilliant strategic player with a real commitment to partnership working and her continuous advocacy for VCSE organisations in high-level strategic forums such as LEPs and local authorities have helped secure income streams for the whole sector. Yet Sue remains, down to earth, compassionate and able to understand the needs of the smallest community organisation which makes her such an effective Consultant. In my mind, she’s an unsung VCSE hero.”
Judith Courts, Judith Courts Consulting
“Sue is an accomplished and astute Consultant, with a strong grasp of national and regional strategy in relation to her field. She is an excellent networker, and has built her reputation through compassion, generosity, and very hard work.”
John Sargent, Ideas Mine
“From her vast and varied experience in management and working in the voluntary and community sector at a senior level, Sue offers expertise, commitment and insight into the consultancy areas that she undertakes. She is able to meet deadlines but also offer business and practical solutions for the clients she works with.
She has an ability to work with a range of staff, volunteers and trustees, and is confident liaising with senior managers and contacts across the public, private and voluntary sectors. It has always been a pleasure and productive experience working with Sue”
